the finger's mouth

My music story begins with Mrs. Carlson's piano lessons every Tuesday night at the age of eight. Six years later, she retired... and almost simultaneously I was asked to join a band with my good friend David, a band which eventually evolved into Curium.

I'm constantly fascinated by sounds and music of all kinds. I love writing, recording, and producing - both in and out of Curium. I prefer subtleties and often take a while to feel out a song and add just the right amount of sound, in just the right place, for just the desired effect. Yet, in contradiction, I love improvising. Melodic hooks or harmonic textures, blasting noise or ethereal atmosphere - all fall within my consideration. I enjoy playing the keyboard as much as I enjoy playing the washing machine, the aluminum can, and the squeaky screen door.

Every sound I play in a Curium song is custom made, hand-crafted. As much as I love experimenting with sound in the studio environment, my aim during a performance is to express everything live - while delivering an entertaining presence. I'm always pushing...
